What is Favorites Icon?

You may have noticed that some blogs and websites have a little icon that appear next to the web address at the top of the page. The little icon is an .ICO icon format and named FavIcon (short for "favorites icon"). This also appears when you save the link in your browser and gives you a graphical way of looking at it. Some of the browsers support *.GIF and *.PNG formats, but .ICO format is the most common and we recommend it.(Internet Explorer only support 16x16 pixels .ICO format, other formats couldn't displayed in Internet Explorer)

Why do I need to make a FavIcon for my site?

Originally, Internet Explorer only used favicon.ico for bookmarks (MSIE 6.0 and older versions). But now, newer versions of Internet Explorer (7.0 and above) and most other browsers(Ex. Mozilla Firefox) also display the favicon in the address bar on every visit, so this is becoming more important than before. It is kind of website branding issue, also will let the site looks more professional and personalized.
